“There is far more to parenting than getting our kids to act right.” Today’s guest, author and speaker Ginger Hubbard, sits down for an important conversation about allowing God’s word to inform our discipline, training and prayer for our children. As Ginger points out, as soon as our children are old enough to disobey, they are ready to begin being shaped by the truth of God’s word. Young mom, medium mom, empty-nester or grand mom, this is an episode you will not want to miss.
Ginger’s Three Reasons Why We Pray:
1. Prayer is a command of God.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
2. Prayer draws us closer to God.
Deuteronomy 4:7: “For what great nation has a god as near to them as the LORD our God is near to us whenever we call on him?”
3. Prayer releases God’s power.
James 5:16: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Three Steps to Addressing Our Children’s Tongue Related Struggles:
1. Ask heart probing questions.
2. Reprove: Explain the behavior that needs to be “put off.”
3. Train: Explain what behavior needs to be “put on.”
Ginger’s verse for moms to pray this year:
Psalm 19:14: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
Hebrews 4:12: “The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Ephesians 4:22-24: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
