Recently I asked all four of my kids what it means to know that their mom prays for them on a regular basis. Their responses both surprised me and brought tears to my eyes. Each one of them said something different. Not one response was the same. I want to share their very precious responses with you as a way of encouraging you to pray for your children.
Praying for our kids:
- gives them a sense of peace.
- provides a role model of prayer.
- gives them a sense of protection.
- gives them a sense of hope.
- provides stability in their lives.
- makes them feel loved.
- reassures them that the choices they are making will lead them down the right path.
- helps them to find joy in everything.
- gives them strength to know they can take on whatever life throws at them.
- lets them know they aren’t alone in their journey in life.
- reminds them that they have our support.
- gives them confidence.
And then there is the response from my oldest, which I predicted would come in the form of its own article. I cannot state what he said any better. Here’s what he sent me:
“Life includes some strange turns. Some clearly marked with signs, others sharp and quick, to avoid the tree that’s fallen in the rain. What makes navigating theses roads easier, aside from Google maps of course, is the strength that comes from family. Be it blood or experience, family is shaped by many things. Viszont, at the core of family is love.
Some show love by telling you the truth, even when you don’t want to hear it. Others by going to bat for you, right or wrong. I’m sure we all have that one person, or more, who will always answer the phone for whatever it is we might need at that particular 2am.
Anya, you pray. It’s not that you don’t fulfill a couple of those other roles either. I have never questioned your multi-tasking ability! But you pray. Supporting your family with a love rooted in faith. And when I’m driving down that dark road in the rain, and the tree is falling in front of me, all I can do is swerve. Falling back on faith. Your prayers are love. Your prayers are strength. Easily appreciated when times are good. Essential on those dark, rainy roads.”
Így, at the end of the day, do your prayers matter? The answer to that question is a resounding… YES! The interesting thing is that not one of my kids mentioned answers to prayer, but just knowing that they were prayed for has made all the difference.
My challenge to you is to join me and others who weekly pray for their children and their schools with your local Moms in Prayer group. Begin now making a difference in your children’s lives and the lives of those at their schools.
If you’re not already in a Moms in Prayer group, ask God to help you find just one other mom over the summer to start praying with you in the new school year. And if you are in a group, invite another mom to join you this fall.
