No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
In the year 2000, I was brought into the circle of Moms in Prayer (then Moms In Touch) as a new Christian. At that time, I didn’t know how to pray, and I was uncomfortable praying aloud. This life as a Christ-believer was new to me, but Moms in Prayer changed my relationship with our God and Savior. I began to learn that the Lord has instructed us to “pray without ceasing,” and that the Spirit knows all things and will intercede on our behalf.
Initially, I thought that praying for my daughters was a great way to ask God to mold them into the women I wanted them to become. I quickly learned that He was asking me to “give them to Him” … not just in certain circumstances, but in ALL circumstances. For a new Christian this was incredibly freeing, and as I prayed with my Moms in Prayer partners, I continued to grow into a relationship with our God who is true and faithful to His promises (Jeremiah 29:11). Not only could I see God working, but I also sensed His incredible peace and grace in my daily life as I “let go.”
Twelve years later, I look back on all the praises and the thanksgiving for answered prayer, and He has proven to be a faithful God. It is evident in the “small” requests like giving me a tender heart in dealing with the adolescent angst of my children. And it is evident in the “big” school-wide requests like softening the hearts of administrators who altered basic curriculum to include truth and values that align with God’s intent for our children.
Through Moms in Prayer, my relationship with the Lord took a mighty turn as I praised Him for His attributes on a daily basis. He became a God who took residence in my heart. Moms in Prayer has taught me to keep my life centered on the Lord (through continual praise, repentance and thanksgiving) and to know that my prayers are “in His will” (by praying Scripture).
My experience with Moms in Prayer has altered my spiritual life in that I now boldly and faithfully place my children at God’s feet (even when my heart is wavering). God has ignited in me a desire to come alongside other women and guide them into growing a lifelong intimacy with our Lord through prayer.
