Looking for ways to equip your kids spiritually this summer?
Teaching them that God is near will refresh them, guard against discouragement and doubt in God’s goodness, will bring comfort to their hearts, and remind them of God’s promises.
But before we teach our kids, we may need a reminder first.
Whether you’re a mother to young ones, teenagers, or adult children, you can feel lonely, discouraged, or unnoticed at times.
And it can come in many forms – through your responsibilities, others misunderstanding your needs, being physically alone if you are a single mom or an empty nester, or through weariness.
I think sometimes we forget that God is with us and how much we need to be reminded of His presence.
He’s there. He’s listening. He cares.
And He understands your role as a mother. I remember one day when I was feeling a little down and even though I knew God was with me, I asked Him to comfort me with His presence.
He not only answered that prayer, but taught me how to practice His presence by surrounding myself with the truth of His Word. So sometime this week, I want you to find a quiet place for just 10 minutes where you can meditate on His Word and apply these truths.
God’s Presence Refreshes Your Heart
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. John 14:16
You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Psalm 139:5
The LORD your God is in your midst; the Mighty One who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
… the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27b
The Lord is my shepherd. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. Psalm 23:1a,2
You are my hiding place; You keep me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah. Psalm 32:7
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10
I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. Psalm 16:8
How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. Psalm 139:17-18
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:6
You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Psalm 73:24
Whenever your feelings are telling you that God is standing afar off or doesn’t understand your situation, go to His Word, practice the truth, and experience His comforting presence.
Teach this to your kids or grandkids so they remember that God is near.
If you have young children or grandchildren, ask them to close their eyes and picture God’s presence:
God is right beside you. He is your Helper and gives you strength. God blesses you with good things. He sings over you with joy. He surrounds you with songs of victory. He is your Good Shepherd who guides you, lets you rest in green meadows and leads you beside peaceful streams. God is with you when you sleep and when you wake up. His goodness and love will be with you all of your life.
For older children, use the verses above.
In Moms in Prayer, we come together as praying moms each week and focus on an attribute of God, with that weekly reminder that He is near. We support one another by gathering together and we pray Scripture for our children and their schools. FIND OUT MORE!

This is a precious word of encouragement Sue! I am going to share it with the young moms in my church. Nothing greater to experience than the nearness of Christ! From Him comes our courage, confidence, hope, the power to keep going. We all need this!

“Hey dear praying moms!
Thank you so much for this incredible gift you’ve shared on this platform. It’s truly amazing that in seasons of spiritual dryness, there’s a place like this where we can come, be revived, and feel God’s presence again.
Lately, I’ve been teaching my children about God’s unconditional love, and how deeply He cares for us. I’m so grateful to now have this resource from Moms in Prayer to help me show them that God is always near.
I can’t wait to journey through this with my little ones — growing together in His Word, and learning more about His faithfulness every day.
God richly bless you all, dear moms!”

It’s wonderful that you’re “training them up in the way that they should go.” If you’re not in a Moms in Prayer group yet, you can request to join a group here: https://momsinprayer.org/get-involved/join-a-group/ I started praying for my daughter when she was young and witnessed God changing her heart and preparing her for the Christian ministry she works for now. God bless you!
