Shortly after her family moved to Poway, California in the late 1980’s, Susan learned of Moms in Prayer from an article her sister sent to her. Years later, Susan realized that she lived just a block from Fern Nichols, Moms in Prayer Founder. She also discovered that her four kids used to spend time at Fern’s home playing basketball.
Susan joined her first Moms in Prayer group, meeting at a home to pray for the local elementary school. As her kids grew older, she joined the group praying for Poway High School, led by Fern. In 1995, Susan volunteered to help with the first Moms in Prayer International promotional video. Then in 1997, she was delighted to join the headquarters staff.
Married to Jacob, Susan and her husband are blessed to have 6 children (5 married) and 6 grandkids (5 grandsons) plus a another granddaughter on the way.
Susan recounts, “I am forever thankful for Moms in Prayer to help me get through many challenging years with our oldest daughter who was a prodigal teen and beyond. She is now in her 30’s and happily married to a wonderful young man who also loves Jesus! When she told me a couple years ago that she was getting married, she was quick to say, “Mom, I’m so glad I didn’t settle! I don’t know why I made so many bad choices in guys over so many years.” God is Faithful. He knows the plans He has and they are for good, for hope and a future.”
Susan enjoys reading, going for walks, encouraging people, spending time with family, and of course praying in a Moms in Prayer/Grandmas in Prayer group.
Deuteronomy 31:8 has been a comfort for many years, “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
