New Jersey State Coordinator, Karen Verhoog
In the fall of 1999, while attending a Bible study, a few moms informed the group they had to leave early in order to attend their Moms in Prayer group. God touched my heart and I knew I wanted to pray for my children when they entered public school. One year later, when my oldest child began kindergarten, I inquired about a group in my town and found there was an existing group, but their children were starting middle school the following year. My area coordinator asked, “Why don’t you start a group?” Two years later, when my oldest child entered second grade, I gathered a group of moms to pray and have been praying in a Moms in Prayer group ever since.
Moms in Prayer has deepened my relationship with the Lord by teaching me how to pray and has introduced me to women throughout New Jersey and other parts of the U.S. who have the same heart for their children and prayer. It has grounded me with a deep love for the Lord and a heart to serve Him. I have witnessed many answered prayers.
My husband, Charlie, and I have been married for 25 years. We have three adult children Brianne, Charles, and Christy. Ryley, our King Charles Cavalier spaniel, and I are a certified therapy dog team and love visiting nursing homes, schools, and libraries.
One of my favorite verses is Psalm 46:20, “Be still and know that I am God.”
