His Love Calms Your Fears

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.  2 Thessalonians 3:16

This past spring, I was helping my daughter in law, Elizabeth, adjust to the newest addition to the family, Baby Lucy. One day, while Lucy was sleeping, Elizabeth decided to take the boys out. Baby Lucy didn’t sleep long because she was having trouble keeping her pacifier in her mouth. She would spit it out and I would put it back in. We did this for a while until she got so frustrated that she began to cry.

As I cradled her in my arms, I began to sing songs over her. Song after song fell from my lips. The room filled with a sense of calm. The moments between Lucy, myself, and the Lord were caring and affectionate. In the quiet, I could feel God’s presence. I was thrilled that the Lord met me in the Great Room.

This ordinary day had just become extraordinary because God had entered the moment.

When I paused, I remembered all that I had learned in Moms in Prayer. These moms had taught me how to pray for my children and grandchildren. My group prays bold prayers and I have gleaned great wisdom from listening to them cry out to God. This is what gave me the idea to pray over my granddaughter.

First, I began by telling Lucy how much I loved her and that God had a purpose and plan for her life. Then I continued by asking God to protect Lucy, to make her strong in the Lord, and that Lucy’s heart would be tender towards Christ. I prayed that at a young age, Lucy would follow Jesus. It was a time of sheer happiness for me as I lifted my voice to God.

Learning to rest in God

Baby Lucy

A verse came to mind, “For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (Zephaniah 3:17) In that moment, I captured a glimpse of the tenderness of our God.

God has so much joy in the closeness of his children that He makes music over us!

I felt so much love in the room that I thought I would burst. Here I was singing over a baby whom I dearly love and God my Father, who loves me a million times more, sings over me!

The peace and contentment that Lucy felt in the closeness of my arms is the same peace available to me and each of God’s children. For God tells us, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.“ (Isaiah 41:10)  No matter what the circumstances are, our Lord promises to hold us. He brings us peace.

With all the uncertainty and chaos in this world, it is a comfort to know that we are held safe and secure. In the arms of the Lord, we can rest. I want to challenge you to take time to sit in God’s presence.

Just like I spoke over my beloved Lucy, the Lord speaks truth over you.

I could imagine that these are some of the words He would say:

My dear child, I designed you inside and out. I fashioned you in your mother’s womb. You are unique in design. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. From Psalm 139:13-14

How precious are My thoughts towards you! I think about you all the time! From Psalm 139:17

I have loved you with an everlasting love. My love for you has no end. From Jeremiah 31:3

My plans for you are to give you a bright future. When you pray to Me, I will listen. From Jeremiah 29:11-12

I will go before you and will be with you. I will never leave you or forsake you. From Deuteronomy 31:8

When your life seems hard and you are walking through a dark valley, know that I am with you. I will help you to not be afraid. From Psalm 23:4

I will bring supernatural peace into your life. You won’t be able to explain it, but a God-given hush will calm your heart. From John 14:27

My ways are perfect. I am completely trustworthy and just. From Deuteronomy 32:4

As you love Me and keep My precepts, I will love you and your family for generations to come. From Deuteronomy 7:9

So you see, sweet one, I loved you enough to give My Son for you. From John 3:16-17

I have also planned for you to spend eternity with Me with your own special place in My home. From John 14:3

In the meantime, you will be able to stand steadfast and firm while you fully give yourself to My work. Nothing you do will ever be wasted because you are Mine. From 1 Corinthians 15:58

I shower My love on you and call you My child. From 1 John 3:1

So, rest now and “Be still and know that I am God.” (Ps 46:10) Hush.. and listen.. perhaps you can hear a melody across the wind because I am still singing over you.

Pray this with me:

Father God, I praise You because You are my Peace. You care for me like a loving parent and make my life quiet and calm. Even when trouble comes, I find rest in Your presence. God, help me to share the peace that You bring me with others. In this chaotic world, people long for peace. Please give me the boldness to say an encouraging word and share my faith with those around me. Let all I do honor You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Hallelujah and Amen.
