Easter is such a beautiful time of year. The promise of spring, the joy of celebrating Jesus’ resurrection, and the chance to gather with family, fills my heart with gratitude. But if I’m honest, it can also be a time when the pressure to “measure up” creeps in.
Letting Go of Comparison
As moms, we can feel an unspoken pressure to make every holiday magical for our families. It was hard enough before social media was a thing and now it’s only magnified. It’s easy to feel like I’m falling short as a mother. But let me remind you of this truth: our worth isn’t found in how we feel or how we believe we measure up to those around us. It’s found in Christ alone. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Our identity is secure in Him.
When we let go of comparison, we free ourselves to focus on what truly matters: pointing our kids to Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Instead of striving for perfection, let’s pursue modeling our faith for our children. Let them see us living out our faith moment by moment. These are the times that will shape their hearts far more than any picture-perfect Easter morning.
Modeling Faith for Our Kids
One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a front-row seat to our walk with Jesus. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 reminds us to impress God’s Word on our children by talking about it throughout our daily lives—when we sit at home, walk along the road, lie down, and get up.
This Easter season, let your kids see you prioritizing time with God
- Let them “catch” you reading your Bible.
- Open your Bible at the breakfast table and share what you’re learning.
- Pray out loud over them before school or bedtime.
- Let them know you’re meeting with other moms to pray for them and their schools in your Moms in Prayer group.
These simple acts speak volumes about what matters most in your life—and they’ll leave a lasting impression on your children.
Resting in Christ’s Finished Work
Easter is a celebration of freedom—freedom from sin, death, and striving. Can I get an amen? Jesus declared on the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30). Because of His sacrifice, we don’t have to strive for perfection or try to earn God’s love. We are already fully loved and accepted by Him! There is no greater truth for us as believers, and no greater truth that our kids need to hear.
This truth gives us permission to rest. We don’t need to carry the weight of trying to create a perfect day or keep up with others’ expectations. Instead, we can focus on celebrating what Jesus has already done for us—and teaching our children to do the same.
Practical Ways to Celebrate Simply
If you’re looking for ways to keep Easter focused on Jesus this year, here are a few ideas for children of any age:
- Read the Easter Story Together: Spend time as a family reading about Jesus’ death and resurrection from Luke 22–24 or John 18–21.
- Pray as a Family: Take turns thanking God for His love and sacrifice.
- Celebrate through Worship: Play worship songs that focus on Jesus’ victory over sin and death.
- Keep it Simple: Remember that small acts of faith—like praying together or sharing Scripture—can have a big impact.
Pray With Me
Jesus, You gave Yourself to be the most beautiful and perfect sacrifice. In Your perfection, I am made complete and I can rest in You, knowing that You have already accomplished everything I need for salvation. Reveal areas of my life where I am striving to keep up with those around me or false ideas that I must work harder to earn what You have so freely given. Help me to be encouraged and to encourage other moms that our faithfulness in prayer and modeling Christ’s love is making an eternal difference in our children’s lives. Jesus, let this Easter be a time of freedom —freedom from comparison, freedom from striving, and freedom to rest in Your grace. Help me to point my kids not to myself, but to You, Jesus—the One who makes all things new. Amen.
